Blog numero 31.  SHELL.

Por fin llegue después 36 horas de viaje desde trujillo hasta un pequeño pueblo se llama shell. 

Mi primera noche (llegue el lunes a las 8) no tuve ningún idea donde debo ir para dormir ni encontrar mi jefe ni nada.  Fui al hospital y cuando no pude entrar yo comí un mango.  Por fin me dio cuenta que podría ir al emergencia y después 30 minutos estaba durmiendo el la cama mas grande de toda mi vida.

Yo empecé en el hospital Martes, y los doctores estaban hablando sobre turnos y horarios trabajando en el hospital.  Eso no era lo que yo quise o pide, entonces me dio miedo que yo no podría hacer lo que quise hacer - salud publica y desarrollo comunitario.  Pero, después un reunión el miércoles todo era bien.  Mi horario estaba leer, traducir, y escribir por la primera semana, y después podría ir con grupos y el equipo de desarrollo a las comunidades rurales para ensenar o construir o desarrollar relaciones.  Yo tuve libros acerca teoría de desarrollo, culturas, promotoras, enseñanza, y alivio.  también, porque este hospital es un organización Cristiano, también tuve libros devotos y de teoría Cristiano, como CS lewis o otros.

Entonces, si tengo fotos y experiencias de Shell y voy a escribir un blog para cada uno de estos, pero acá voy a explicar un poco sobre lo que yo ha aprendido.  Voy a intentarlo en castellano.  Ayuda me Dios. :)

Primero, debo presentar la tema bien.  Soy un Cristiano.  Sigo Cristo, así como puedo.  Si me conoces bien ya sabes este, pero tal vez no era bien obvio.  Entonces mucho que he aprendido es un poco espiritual, y por supuesto no tienes que leer si no quieres.  Pero si estas leyendo creo que me cuidas, y probablemente tienes ganas a entenderme mejor.  Este es un parte bien importante de mi vida, y para entenderme hay que entender que yo creo.  Además, los principios de desarrollo que aprendí puede ser secular también, entonces por lo menos puedes aprender algo nuevo.

Para empezar, algunos antecedentes.

Yo creo en los partes claves de Cristianismo.  No creo en una biblia enteramente literal, pero también creo que hay partes claves y partes que no son claves.  Por ejemplo, la doctrina de creación no es clave, y también creo que no es literal.  En un época de mi vida si yo creí en una Biblia literal, pero con dudas, preguntas, y repuestas yo llegue acá, donde estoy ahora.  La cosa importante es eso: siempre hay que tener dudas y siempre hay que preguntar honestamente.  Si quieres hablar acerca de esto mas, por favor enviarme un mensaje.  Yo te cuento eso solo para decir que casi todo que yo aprendí tiene un basis en un punto clave: Si eres un Cristiano, su vida debe cambiar para vivir mas como Jesús.  

Creo que si solo un medio de los Cristianos viven como deben vivir el mundo va a cambiar.  Es la verdad que muchos Cristianos hacen cosas terrible, y también es la verdad que muchas personas de otros religiones o sin religión son personas muy muy buenas.  Pero yo creo con todo mi corazón que si vivimos como Jesús ha comandado el mundo seria un lugar muy diferente.  

Cristianismo debe ser un manera de vida mas que solo una palabra.  Cristianismo debe costar mas que quieres dar.  Mas donaciones, mas tiempo, mas esfuerza, mas dolor.   Debes estar incomodo.  Todavía no he vivido así.  Pero estoy intentando, desde ahora.  Como dijo Ghandi: "No sé de nadie que has hecho más por la humanidad que Jesús. De hecho, no hay nada malo en el cristianismo. El problema está en ustedes los cristianos. Usted no comienzan a la altura de sus propias enseñanzas."

Ok.  Las enseñanzas

Primero, yo aprendí (Mejor dicho: estaba convicto) la arriba.

Segundo, acerca desarrollo.

La primera cosa que debemos aprender es que hay tres diferente dimensiones de servicio.  El primero es alivio, el segundo rehabilitación, y el tercer es desarrollo.  

1) alivio: cuando hay un desastre (tormenta, inundación, una persona recientemente sin hogar, etc) y personas están muriendo sin ayuda.  No pueden ayudar ellos mismos, ni tiene habilidad a salvar ellos mismos, y no tiene los recursos para ayudar los demás.  

2) rehabilitación: después un desastre ha estado estabilizado.  Cuando nadie va a morir por falta de algo, pero la comunidad necesita reconstruir todo.  con rehabilitacion (y tambien Desarrollo) hay dos reglas bien importante.  a) jamas hacen para alguien lo que el puede hacer por su mismo.  b) tiene un plan de salir.  necesita saber cuando tu vas a salir y permitir la gente a intentar y desarrollar por ellos mismos.  Si van a caer, pero si todavia estas alli nadie va a estar de pie por su mismo. 

3) desarrollo.  este es mejorando los condiciones en una communidad estable.  en parte tres Voy a describir 4 areas de relaciones, y desarrollo es específicamente el desarrollo de los relaciones.  Vamos a ver.

Con estos tres demensiones de servicio son cada uno importantes.  Pero, son peligrosos.  Si hay un situacion que necesita Alivio y ustedes intentan a dar desarrollo la gente va a morir.  Igualmente, Si no hay un desastre pero intentamos a dar alivio la gente va a ser dependiente en nosotros y no va a desarrollar verdaderamente.  Por eso es importante a saber en que etapa de necesidad es esta comunidad.  

Luego, Yo aprendi que la primera cosa que debes ser con comunidades es un valoracion de los haberes de la comunidad (como habilidades, infrastructura, lideres) y de los deseos de la comunidad.  nadie puede ensenar nada o promover cambios si la comunidad no tiene interese.  

y por fin, yo aprendi nuevos definiciones de las palabras "desarrollo" y "pobreza."

Demasiado a menudo creemos que pobreza significa solo una falta de cosas materiales.  Este creencia es una mentira peligra.  Con este podemos creer que para resolver este problema solo necesita proveer lo que ellos faltan.  Si lees el libro se llama "voces de los pobres" una cosa es muy obvio.  Los pobres falta mas que cosas materiales. Ellos hablan mucho sobre respecto, depresión, falta de digno, relaciones, habilidad a proveer por sus familias, etc.  

Yo aprendí que la pobreza es un falta en 4 diferente áreas de relaciones.  

1) su relación con su mismo.  Pobreza en este relación significa depresión, vergüenza, y el sentido que no tiene digno.

2) su relación con los demás.  Pobreza acá es un vida sin un red de apoyo, sin amigos, con desigualdad, racismo, desprecio, y supresión.  También puede faltar cosas materiales en comparación a los demás.

3) Entre usted y el medio ambiente.  Te falta recursos para vivir, como un techo, agua, comida, salud.  

4) Y por fin, falta un relación con Dios (mira, sin este son principios secular!).  Con un relación con Dios puede sentir Su amor y propósito.  Además, si tienes este relación, y los demás tienen el mismo, las otras áreas va a empezar a mejorar.   

Entonces, nosotros entendemos que hay 4 áreas de pobreza, y reconocemos que debemos pensar en como podemos cambiar nuestros acciones para servir en cada área.  

En la primera área debemos ofrecer entrenamiento para trabajos y oportunidades a coger trabajo.  Con el segundo hay un lugar para las leyes.  El tercer es con alivio, y este es quizás la mas fácil a tratar.  La verdad es casi cada uno de estas áreas va a mejorar cuando hay una comunidad cariñosa.  Los demás pueden proveer trabajos, pueden luchar contra desigualdad y desprecio, y pueden asegurar que los que no tienen nada pueden sobrevivir por su cariños y compartiendo.  Para hacer este cambio hay que cambiar le mente de la comunidad completamente.  Una manera para hacerlo es con Cristianismo.  

Escuchen.  Ya se que las mayoría de Cristianos no son buenos ejemplos de como debemos conducirnos mismos.  Y también ya yo se que hay bastante personas non Cristianos  quien son mejor ejemplos.  Pero este es lo que yo he visto acá.  Cristianismo es transformador para las comunidades acá.  Acá ellos se comportan como deben:  Con cariño y amistad, con dando y compartiendo.  Es increíble.  La verdad simple es si puedes ayudar con los tres problemas primeras sin el cuarto.  Pero con el cuarto sera mas fácil porque vas a tener ayuda:  La ayuda de una comunidad transformado.

Y por fin, Tengo una lista muy importante.

Por 4 ano he estado escribiendo cosas que he aprendido.  Ahora yo tengo una lista con mas que 500 cosas.  Por la primera vez voy a  publicarla.  Los cosas aprendidas recientemente estan abajos.

SHELL.Finally I arrived after 36 hours traveling from Trujillo to a small town called shell.My first night (I arrived monday at 8) I had no idea where I should go to sleep and find my boss or anything. I went to the hospital and when I could not enter I ate a mango. I finally realized I could go to the emergency and after 30 minutes was sleeping on the biggest bed of my life.I started in the hospital Tuesday, and doctors were talking about shifts and working hours in the hospital. That was not what I wanted or requested, then I was afraid that I could not do what I do - public health and community development. But, after a meeting on Wednesday everything was fine. My schedule was to read, translate, and write for the first week, and then I could go with groups and the development team to rural communities to teach or build or develop relationships. I had books about development theory, cultures, health promoters, teaching, and relief. Also, because this hospital is a Christian organization, I also had books on Christian theory and devotinoals, like CS Lewis and others.so, yes I have photos and experiences of Shell and I will write a blog for each of these, but here I will explain a little about what I've learned. I'll try in Castilian (Espanol). Help me God. :)First, I will present the subject well. I am a Christian. I follow Christ, as well as I can. If you know me well you know this, but maybe it was not quite obvious. Therefor much of what I've learned is a bit spiritual, and of course do not have to read if you dont want. But I think if you're reading this you care about me, and you probably want to understand myself better. This is a very important part of my life, and to understand you have to understand that I believe. In addition, I learned early development can also be secular, then at least you can learn something new.To begin, some background.
I believe in the key parts of Christianity. I do not believe in an entirely literal Bible, but I also believe that there are key parts and not key parts. For example, the doctrine of creation is not key, and I also believe that it is not literal. In a time of my life if I believed in a literal Bible, but with doubts, questions, and answers I arrived here, where I am now. I believe that if only half of the Christians lived how they should live the world will change. It's true that many Christians do awful things, and it is also true that many people of other religions or no religion are very very good. But I believe with all my heart that if we live as Jesus has commanded the world would be a very different place.
Christianity must be a way of life more than just a word. Christianity should cost more than you want to give. More donations, more time, more effort, more pain. You have to be uncomfortable. I have not lived like this. But I'm trying, now. As Ghandi said: "I know of no one who has done more for humanity than Jesus. Indeed, there is nothing wrong with Christianity. The problem is with you Christians. You do not begin to live up to his own teachings."
Ok. Lessons
First, I learned (rather, was convicted of) the above.
Second, on development.
The first thing we learn is that there are three different dimensions of service. The first is relief, rehabilitation second, and the third is development.
1) relief: when there is a disaster (storm, flood, a newly homeless, etc.) and people are dying without help. They can not help themselves, or have ability to save themselves, and not have the resources to help others.
2) rehabilitation: after a disaster has been stabilized. When no one will die for lack of something, but the community needs to rebuild everything. with rehabilitation (and also developed) there are two very important rules. a) never do for to someone what he can do for himself. b) have an exit plan. you need to know when you're going out and allow people to try and develop themselves. yes they will fall, but if you're still there, no one will stand for themself.
3) development. This is improving the conditions in a stable COMMUNITY. in part three I will describe four areas of relationships, and development is specifically the development of relationships. Lets see.With these three demensiones of service each one is important. But, they are dangerous. If there is a situation that needs relief and you try to give development people will die. Similarly, if there is a disaster but we try to give people relief will be dependent on us and will not truly develop. Therefore it is important to know in which stage of need is this community.Then I learned that the first thing you should be with communities is a valuation of the assets of the community (such as skills, infrastructure, leaders) and the desires of the community. No one can teach anyone anything or promote change if the community is not interested.and finally, I learned new definitions of the words "development" and "poverty."
Too often we think only poverty means a lack of material things. This belief is a dangererous lie. With this we believe that to solve this problem one only needs to provide what they are missing. If you read the book called "voices of the poor" one thing is very obvious. The poor need more than material things. They talk a lot about respect, depression, lack of worth, relationships, ability to provide for their families, etc..
I learned that poverty is a lack in 4 different areas of relationships.1) your relationship with yourself. Poverty in this relationship means depression, shame, and a sense that one has no worth.2) your relationship with others. Poverty here is a life without a support network, friendless, inequality, racism, contempt, and suppression. You can also be missing material things compared to others.3) Between you and the environment. We need resources to live, like a roof, water, food, health.4) And finally, we need a relationship with God (Look, without this they are secular principles!). With a relationship with God one can feel His love and purpose. Also if you have this relationship, and others have the same, the other areas (the above three) will start to improve.
So we understand that there are four areas of poverty, and recognize that we must think about how we can change our actions to serve in every area.
In the first area we provide job training and opportunities to get a job. In the second there is a place for laws. The third is with relief, and this is perhaps the easiest to treat. The truth is, almost every one of these areas will improve when there is a caring community. The others can provide jobs, can fight inequality and contempt, and can ensure that they who have nothing can survive on their affection and sharing. To make this change you have to change the community's mind completely. One way to do this is with Christianity.
Listen. I already know that most Christians are not good examples of how we should conduct ourselves. And also I know there are plenty of people who are non Christians who are better examples. But this is what I've seen here: Christianity is transformative for communities here. Here they behave as they should. With love and friendship, giving and sharing. That's incredible. The simple truth is yes you can help with the first three problems without the fourth. But with the fourth will be easier because you'll have help: The support of a community transformed.
And finally, I have a very important list.
For 4 year I've been writing things I've learned. Now I have a list with more than 500 things. For the first time I'll post it. The newly learned things are below.
